My clinical interests are heart failure and cardiac arrhythmias in patients with heart failure. Having advanced training in both heart failure and electrophysiology, I practice an integrated approach in treating patients with heart failure and cardiac arrhythmias. I am also interested in cardiac recovery using electrical (i.e. cardiac resynchronization) and mechanical (i.e. ventricular assist devices) therapies. I treat patients across the heart failure spectrum, from early diagnosis to heart transplantation. At UCSF, I am the Director of the Mechanical Circulatory Support and Heart Failure Device Programs.

My research is aimed at understanding the epidemiology of heart failure in women and sudden cardiac death in women with heart failure. In addition, I am developing new diagnostic sensors and therapeutic devices for patients with cardiovascular disease, including patients with heart failure. At UCSF, I am the Director of the Cardiology Clinical Research infrastructure.
